Program Description

Event Details

Butterfly gardens may attract a host of beautiful, winged creatures to your yard, not just butterflies. What’s the difference between a host plant and a nectar plant, and why does a successful butterfly garden need both? How many caterpillars does it take to feed baby birds? What kind of birds are local to Simsbury and how does a butterfly garden help them? These and other questions will be answered, and attendees will find out what makes a successful butterfly habitat and how you can create one in your yard.

“Butterfly Gardens” Presenter:
Margery Winters is the Assistant Director at Roaring Brook Nature Center and has been managing RBNC’s gardens since 2001. She is the current president of the Simsbury Land Trust, Simsbury Open Space Chair, and Simsbury Conservation Commission Chair. She formerly served as president of the Simsbury Garden Club and chairman of the Federated Garden Club of Connecticut Landscape Design Study. Margery is a nature and native plant consultant to the Simsbury Pollinator Pathway.

A presentation by the Pollinator Pathways Committee and the Simsbury Library.
