Marty McMahon a Simsbury resident and Windsor native will give a talk on his long open water swimming career that started in 1985 when he became the first Connecticut resident to swim the English Channel. He recently swam Catalina Island this past August to complete the triple crown of open water swimming.

At the age of 22, Marty McMahon became the 272nd person and 29th American to swim the English Channel. As a young adult, he swam around Manhattan Island and across Chesapeake Bay. At age 47 he ramped up his swimming again by swimming across Long Island Sound. In December 2013 Marty became the 91st IISA ice miler in Boston Harbor. This summer he made a second attempt at Catalina Island and was successful finishing off what is known as the Triple Crown of open water swimming. He broke an odd record, the longest time to complete the Triple Crown – 36 years.
