Program Description

Event Details

Our history as a people is rooted in the European expansion and colonialization of the 16th-19th centuries. Too often, Black History is either ignored or sidelined as a single narrative of victimhood. Black History is also a history of resistance, survival, reconstruction, and above all, community. This course seeks to connect us with a past that is at once unknown and intimate, invisible and visible.

You will learn that the imprint of history is everywhere apparent in our society today. Learning about Black History will broaden your horizons, challenge deeply held assumptions, and bring to light that we share a history in which the "sum of us" is significantly greater than just "some of us".

Please plan to attend all four sessions; February 2, 9, 16 and 23. This series will be livestreamed on SCTV. It can viewed on their YouTube channel or directly on the SCTV website
